When we get calls and emails for Hawaii deliveries, we get excited! BUT we also make sure to let clients know that while it’s a tiny house, it is no small task! Their dream tiny home will travel over 4000 miles across international borders, land, and sea to reach its final destination in Hawaii. They have to plan out where they’ll park it and prepare the land ahead of time. They need to decide how they’ll handle permitting and registration, and they need to know what’s allowed on their island. Because of the recent wildfires and need for affordable housing, Hawaii has loosened its rules slightly when it comes to tiny living, but if you are planning on moving a house across the ocean, you have to know what you’re getting yourself into.
The good news is that after our deliveries to Maui and Oahu islands, we’ve received lots of feedback that even though shipping a tiny home to Hawaii is expensive, the cost of a luxury custom tiny house built by Tiny Topanga plus logistics and shipping across the Pacific, is still far more affordable and time efficient than building on the island.
And this brings us to our recent Oahu delivery. Our clients contacted us in summer of 2025 to start their build. They are a young couple with a 2 year old who have been living in Texas. They have family in Oahu and have dreamed of raising their son there. This dream was so important to them, that they decided to buckle down during tiny home construction and spend some time apart with Dad going to live and work in Hawaii while Mom and kiddo stayed in Texas to sell their home and wait out the tiny house build. We met with them periodically throughout the build via zoom to discuss their design wishes and plan out the logistics.
One of the cool things that this family requested, which was new for our team, was a hidden drying rack for dishes. Our client said this was very common in Korea and it was a must-have for her kitchen! Luckily, all of our cabinetry is done in-house so this was no problem for our carpenter.

The family decided on the Lisa model, which we built in collaboration with Shaye’s Tiny Homes. It’s our largest model at 33-feet long, which has 3 bedrooms, and 2 mini-splits. The client works from home, so they’ll be using the downstairs bedroom as an office and 2 upstairs bedrooms as the master and kid’s room. The original design has 2 standing height bedrooms upstairs, but they opted to leave 1 of them as a standard loft for the kid’s room so they’d have more room in the bathroom below. This is one of the things that our clients love about working with Tiny Topanga and we love about each project - no two houses are the same, and every house is designed around our clients’ needs!

The build took around 6 months and moving the house to Hawaii takes about 1 month so from ordering the trailer to delivering the tiny home to its final destination in Oahu took 7 months. Our team handles A-Z of the logistics, from driving the house to the dock and picking it up across the island to deliver it to its final home.

We love how this house turned out. And more importantly, we’re happy that our clients are happy and can start their dream tiny house life in Oahu!
